What Information Is Needed for an OEM Truck Toolbox Quotation?
What Information Is Needed for an OEM Truck Toolbox Quotation?
For an OEM truck toolbox project, an accurate quotation depends on more than product size alone. Buyers usually need to confirm the application, material, structure, hardware, quantity, packaging method and delivery terms before a manufacturer can provide a reliable price.
As a manufacturer of steel and aluminum truck toolboxes, Jiashan Chenchuang supports custom metal storage box projects for trailers, service vehicles, utility trucks, pickup trucks and fleet applications. Before quoting, we usually review drawings, sample photos, dimensions and application details to better understand the product structure and production requirements.
1. Product Size, Drawing or Sample Photo
The most important information for quotation is the required product size.
If you already have a drawing, 3D file or sample photo, it will help the factory understand the structure faster and reduce quotation uncertainty. A clear drawing can also help confirm bending structure, welding position, lid design, lock location, mounting holes and internal reinforcement requirements.
If there is no drawing yet, you can provide the basic information below:
Length, width and height
Mounting position
Door opening direction
Intended vehicle or trailer application
Reference photo or similar product style
For customized truck toolboxes, even small structure differences may affect material usage, labor cost and packaging size, so clear dimensions are very important.
2. Material and Thickness
Truck toolboxes can be made from steel or aluminum depending on the application, target market and budget.
Steel toolboxes are commonly selected for strength, durability and cost control. Aluminum toolboxes are often used when lighter weight and corrosion resistance are important, especially for trailers, trucks and outdoor applications.
For steel truck toolboxes, 1.2 mm material can be suitable for standard commercial use, while 1.5 mm material is often considered for reinforced or heavier-duty applications. If the toolbox will be used in demanding environments, the required thickness and reinforcement design should be confirmed before quotation.
3. Lock, Hinge and Mounting Requirements
Locks, hinges and mounting details directly affect both product cost and user experience.
Buyers should confirm whether the toolbox needs:
Standard lock or stainless steel lock
T-handle lock or custom handle
continuous hinge, reinforced hinge or customized hinge structure
Gas strut support
Rubber seal or weather-resistant sealing strip
Special mounting holes or brackets
Internal divider, drawer or reinforcement structure
These hardware details may seem small, but they can significantly influence production cost, assembly time and final product performance.
4. Surface Finish and Color
Powder coating is commonly used for steel truck toolboxes to improve surface appearance and outdoor protection.
Buyers can provide a target color, surface texture or RAL color reference if required. Common options include black powder coating, textured powder coating or customized colors for brand projects.
For aluminum toolboxes, buyers should confirm whether they need raw aluminum surface, powder coating or another surface treatment.
5. Order Quantity and Packaging
Order quantity is another key factor in OEM quotation.
Trial order quantity, MOQ and annual purchasing plan all affect the quotation structure. For example, sample orders, small batch orders and long-term regular orders may have different unit prices due to material purchasing, tooling preparation and production efficiency.
Packaging is also important for export orders. Buyers should confirm whether they require:
Individual carton packaging
Foam protection
Corner protection
Pallet packing
Shipping marks
Barcode labels
Private-label packaging
Good packaging helps reduce damage during long-distance transportation, especially for bulky metal toolbox products.
6. Destination Port or Delivery Terms
For export quotations, the destination port or delivery terms help estimate logistics-related costs.
Buyers can request FOB, CIF or other trade terms depending on their import process. If the quotation needs to include freight cost, the destination port, order quantity and packaging size should be confirmed in advance.
Quick RFQ Checklist for Custom Truck Toolboxes
Before requesting a quotation, buyers can prepare the following information:
Product size, drawing or sample photo
Vehicle application and mounting position
Steel or aluminum material requirement
Material thickness
Lock, hinge and sealing requirements
Surface color or coating requirement
Logo or private-label requirement
Order quantity
Packaging method
Destination port or delivery terms
